What Is the Voting Process in Nigeria?

So, you’ve decided to vote. That’s great! But now you need to know how the process works. Here’s a breakdown of everything you need to know.

First, you need to find your polling unit. This is the location where you will cast your vote. You can find it on your voter identification card, or by visiting the website of the Independent National Electoral Commission (www.inecnigeria.org).

Once you’ve arrived at your polling unit, identify yourself to the officials and present your voter identification card. You will then be given a ballot paper and directed to one of the voting booths. Cast your vote by shading in the box next to the candidate of your choice, then fold the ballot paper and put it in the ballot box. You can also vote electronically by using your National Identity Card or Voter Identification Card.

What Do I Need to Vote?

To vote in Nigeria, you will need your Permanent Voter Card (PVC) and a valid form of identification.

Your PVC is your most important piece of voting equipment. If your name is not on the voter list or you do not have your PVC, you will not be able to vote. Make sure you bring it with you to the polling station on election day.

Your valid form of identification can be any of the following: driver’s license, national ID card, international passport, Voters’ Register or military ID card.
